Roy Keane: The World Cup Story
During the World Cup, Roy Keane turned
up for a training session drunk. This led to an argument with Republic of Ireland
goalkeeping coach Packie Bonner.
Mick McCarthy was livid with Keane and sent Roy
Keane home. However the Football Association of Ireland (F.A.I.) overruled
McCarthy and told him he had to let Roy Keane stay.
So Mick McCarthy told the F.A.I. that Keane would only
be welcome back if he apologised to Packie Bonner. The F.A.I. agreed and Roy
Keane was allowed to return to the squad.
Keane then turned up for training drunk again and refused
to apologise to Packie Bonner. When McCarthy called Keane over to explain himself, Roy
Keane launched into a tirade calling Mick McCarthy a "f***ing English w***er" repeatedly
amongst other names.
After this, a shocked McCarthy immediately sent Roy
Keane home.
