Walter Samuel Rumours and Transfers
14 10 2007
Walter Samuel insists that fitness is the primary reason behind his sensational return to form for Italian champions Inter this season.
The Argentine has seemingly got back to his old self after a problematic 2006-07 campaign and he is under no illusions as to why.
'I wasn't very lucky last season,' he noted. 'I suffered two serious muscle injuries and that had never really happened to me before. But I'm fine now and I think the results are showing.'
Samuel, who has been handed a regular chance at the back due to the Nerazzurri's defensive injury crisis, isn't totally satisfied with the first few months of the campaign though.
Even if 'The Wall' has been solid and impressive for the Nerazzurri, it has not been enough for him to win an international recall.
'This is the situation and I'm disappointed,' he admitted. 'I have played in the national team for many years and it's very important for me. If I weren't in form I'd be the first to back down, but I'm feeling in great shape so I'm disappointed about not being there. Hernan Crespo, Julio Cruz and Santiago Solari feel the same way. I hope to get back into the national team soon thanks to the positive things done with Inter."
So what's on the agenda for the club this term – the Champions League or another Scudetto success?
'We can clearly think about winning both with the squad we have,' added the former Boca, Roma and Real Madrid man.
'After lifting the Scudetto last time out, we're all thinking about trying to do the same so we will aim to win the title and do well in the Champions League."
