Tottenham
Hotspur Football Club
(England)
May 16 2003: Teddy Sheringham and Steffen Freund
have now left Tottenham.
May 7 2003: Tottenham have confirmed that
they will release 37 year old ex-England international
striker Teddy Sheringham at the end of the season.
May 1 2003: The English Premier League Team of the
Year is:
Goalkeeper: Brad
Friedel of Blackburn Rovers
Defender: Stephen
Carr of Tottenham Hotspur
Defender: Sol
Campbell of Arsenal
Defender: William
Gallas of Chelsea
Defender: Ashley
Cole of Arsenal
Midfielder: Patrick
Vieira of Arsenal
Midfielder: Paul
Scholes of Manchester United
Midfielder: Kieron
Dyer of Newcastle United
Midfielder: Robert
Pires of Arsenal
Striker: Thierry
Henry of Arsenal
Striker: Alan
Shearer of Newcastle United
Apr 29 2003: Tottenham have made an
approach to Man Utd in an attempt to bring Quinton
Fortune to the club. The South African international is
wanted as cover for Christian Ziege on the left and to act
as a defensive shield in front of the defence when Ziege is
fit.
United have insisted that any deal
involves Simon Davies and/or
Stephen Carr going the other
way and that may be what scuppers the deal in the end -
though Hoddle is hopeful of being able to either agree a
good fee or possibly taking Butt
and Phil Neville as well.
With those two being surplus to requirements at the Red
Devils for next season he may very well get his wish.
Apr 24 2003: Colchester United are giving 3
players trials: Aaron McLean of Aldershot Town, George Snee
of Tottenham and Neil Saunders.
Apr 3 2003: Norwich have signed 18 year old
defender David Tyrie on Academy forms following his release
from Tottenham.
Mar 27 2003: Stephen Kelly has joined QPR on loan
from Tottenham Hotspur.
Mar 24 2003: Spurs youngster Dean
Marney has signed a new contract.
Mar 11 2003: Colchester United have signed young
defender Johnnie Jackson on a months loan from Spurs.
Mar 5 2003: Chinese international striker Qu Bo
will sign for Spurs, subject to a medical and
work permit. The 21 year old will join in July from Qingdao
Yizhong, ready for pre-season training.
Mar 4 2003: Norwich forward Paul
McVeigh is wanted by former club Tottenham.
Hoddle feels it was a mistake to allow the Northern Ireland
international to leave - especially with the age of his
frontline. He is hoping to qualify for Europe and then ENIC
will allow him to spend more money which would allow him to
bring in more of the players on his list.
Almost certainly on his way out of White
Hart Lane is Steffen Iversen. The Norwegian striker
hasn't been given the reassurances he would like of a first
team place (when fit!) and so he will look to find a new
club in the summer.
Feb 25 2003: Kasey Keller has signed a 1 year
contract extension with Spurs.
Feb 21 2003: Canadian international keeper Lars
Hirschfeld has joined Luton on a months loan from Tottenham
Hotspur.
Feb 21 2003: Woking have taken young Spurs
goalkeeper Robert Burch on a months loan.
Feb 12 2003: Interest in Liverpool's Czech
midfielder Patrik Berger
has increased with Spurs being the latest club
to inquire about him. His old team-mate Jamie Redknapp has
apparently recommended him to Hoddle (wonder if he was on
the treatment table at the time!) and the fact that he would
be available on a free has meant that Glenn Hoddle is
considering a move for him.
The inquiry was about whether he
would be able to leave early - as Redknapp did - and join Tottenham
on a free. Under FIFA's new rules governing transfers this
would mean Liverpool releasing him.
Feb 12 2003: Mansfield Town have taken Tottenham
keeper Gavin Kelly on trial.
Feb 4 2003: Chris Hughton has been named as the
new assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland. He will do
the job on a part-time basis and will continue to work as a
coach for Spurs.
Feb 2 2003: Tottenham have suffered
another injury blow with the news that Anthony Gardner will
be out for at least 6 weeks. The young defender tore a
hamstring in yesterday's match.
Jan 29 2003: Portsmouth sign Tottenham
midfielder Tim Sherwood until the end of the season. The 33
year old will cost a fee if Pompey gain promotion. He has 3
England caps and a League Championship winners medal from
his time at Blackburn Rovers. Spurs paid £4
million for him from Rovers, who only paid £500,000 for him
from Norwich.
Jan 29 2003: Fenerbahce sign Sergei
Rebrov on an 18 month loan from Spurs. The
Ukrainian international has the option of a permanent deal
if he impresses.
Jan 27 2003: Tottenham manager,
Glenn Hoddle, has informed German midfielder, Steffen
Freund, that his contract will not be renewed when it
expires in the summer.
Jan 27 2003: Paul Gascoigne has signed for Chinese
2nd Division side, Gansu Tianma, on 1 year deal. His duties
will involve being a coaching assistant and a consultant to
the club's youth academy as well as playing. The
ex-Newcastle, Spurs, Lazio, Rangers and
Everton midfielder has been looking for a club all season
but has failed to gain a deal anywhere until now.
Jan 24 2003: Tottenham Hotspur have beaten
Sunderland in the race to sign Kazuyuki Toda. The Japanese
international, who starred in Japan's World Cup side, has
signed a 1 year loan deal from Shimizu S-Pulse. Howard
Wilkinson has expressed his disappointment after hoping to
sign Toda following his trial at the Black Cats.
Jan 21 2003: Tottenham Hotspur striker Les
Ferdinand has joined West Ham for an undisclosed fee. The 36
year old former Newcastle forward chose the Hammers over a
number of other clubs and is now hoping to help them to
avoid relegation.
Jan 17 2003: West Brom are in negotiations with
Nuremberg defender, Tony Sanneh. They are also talking to Spurs
about Tim Sherwood.
Jan 10 2003:
The transfers of Jamie Clapham and Stephen
Clemence to Birmingham City have both gone through today
in time for them to make their debut against Arsenal this
weekend.
Jamie Clapham has signed from Ipswich
Town for an initial fee of £1.3 million. The 27 year old
left sided defender/midfielder is a former Tottenham player
Stephen
Clemence has signed from Tottenham Hotspur
for £900,000.
Jan 1 2003: Crystal Palace are in
negotiations to bring former hero, Chris
Armstrong back to the club. Bolton Wanderers got him for
free in August 2002 and are now looking to offload him to
give themselves a bit more spare cash for the transfer
window.
Armstrong
joined Wrexham in March 1989 from Welsh side Llay Welfare,
he then joined Millwall and it was from there that he was
bought for £1m by Palace. In June 1995 he joined Spurs for
£4.5m, but he suffered injury problems and was never able
to make any impression on the first team and was released in
the summer.
Jan 1 2003: Norwich City are trying to
prise Plymouth Argyle's young striker, Ian
Stonebridge, away. Stonebridge
was an England U18 international while part of Spurs' youth
team, but he was released by them before being snapped up by
Argyle.
He is a strong lad with an eye for goal,
witness his 4 goals in 4 games for the England U18s.
