Simon Colosimo's nickname is: Shima

Simon Colosimo hit the headlines when Andy Cole caught 'Shima' with his studs on his left knee in a horror tackle mid-way through the first half during Manchester United's tour match friendly 1-0 win over the Socceroos (Australia's national team) in Sydney in July 1999 Colosimo was sidelined for six months.

He suffered cartilage and lateral knee ligament damage and required a complete knee reconstruction following the incident. Before the injury Colosimo was one of Australia's best young players and was about to make a big money move to Europe. He fought back though and rescued his career. He joined South Melbourne in August 1999 stayed there until Kevin Keegan brought him over to England initially on trial, then offered Simon a longer-term deal in July 2001. He made his debut for Manchester City as a second half substitute in the 4-0 away defeat to West Brom. But he never established himself in the first team and was released in January 2002. Then, after a trial with Stoke City he moved to re-launch his career in Belgium.
