Sidney Govou has only played for one club and that is Olympique Lyonnaise. He has lightning pace but started off as a midfielder then he was turned into a striker. In the 2000/01 season Govou scored twice against ayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The next term, he notched
up ten goals in 29 league games to help Lyon become French champions for the first time.

He also hit the target in the Champions League matches against Fenerbah?e SK and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and against FC Slovan Liberec in the UEFA Cup. Govou was called the new Thierry Henry after he came into the French Under 21 team and helped them reach the 2002 UEFA European Under 21 Championship final.

A lot of top clubs in Europe are looking at him because of his impressive performances but in April 2002, Govou signed a new contract which could keep him at Lyon until 2008. New French manager, Jacques Santini, knows him well as he managed him at Lyon and named in him his August 2002 squad to play Tunisia. Govou made his international debut in that game and has scored for his country in the Euro 2004 qualifiers.

Thierry Henry would do well to watch out for this lad because he could well keep Henry out of the French first team for the near future.
