Former China international Shengqing Qu has parted company with Adelaide United following an injury ravaged A-League season.
The 31-year-old striker has been the club's 'marquee' player for the past two seasons, but Adelaide Chief Executive Michael Petrillo has confirmed Qu will not be offered a contract extension.
Qu featured in just seven games and scored once last season after undergoing surgery following a serious ankle injury
The former Shanghai Shenhua frontman finished the inaugural 2005/06 as Adelaide's joint top scorer with seven goals and was influential in helping United become Premiers after topping the table at the end of the season.
"Unfortunately for Qu the last season hasn't gone as we would have liked due to persistent problems with his ankle. However, we all know that at his best he was a terrific contributor to the club and the league as he showed in his first season," said Petrillo.
"He has indicated that he would like to stay in touch with the club and has also indicated his intention to become a permanent resident and we wish him well in this regard. We part ways on good terms and wish him well for the future."
Qu will travel to Jinan in May to join Adelaide's squad when The Reds play Chinese champions Shandong Luneng in the AFC Champions League.
Meanwhile, Adelaide midfielder Jason Spagnuolo will undergo a scan after aggravating a quad injury during the 2-2 AFC Champions League draw with Seongnam Chumna on Wednesday.
Spagnuolo, 22, had not featured since the 6-0 Grand Final defeat by Melbourne Victory and aggravated the injury after coming on as a 74th minute substitute against Seongnam.
"His quad wasn't 100% before the game, however he had been in full training for six weeks and had no problems," said Adelaide fitness coach Nik Hagicostas.
"However, the extra intensity of the game showed his quad wasn't ready for that kind of stress."
