Valencia veteran Santiago Canizares says the goalkeeping debate is threatening to undermine the club's plans.
Canizares has been with the club for a decade and is a legend at the Mestalla.
However, he is no longer a guaranteed starter following the arrival of Germany star Timo Hildebrand.
Debate has raged in Spain over who should be number one and Canizares fears the focus has shifted away from the important matter of securing points.
'The two keepers have to deal with the press, we speak too much and it is not good for the team,' Canizares told Marca.
'The best thing for a keeper is like for other players to play a lot of games to earn confidence from everybody. Those are the risks to have a lot of competition within the team; it can be either positive or negative. Having two options can divide the team, the fans, and also the press.'

Goalkeeper Santiago Canizares and midfielder Manuel Fernandes are doubts for Valencia's Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.
Canizares is struggling with an injury to a muscle in his left leg.
Although he was able to take part in training on Monday and will likely be named in the squad he is considered a doubt with German custodian Timo Hildebrand standing by to don the gloves if necessary at the Mestalla.
Fernandes has adductor muscle problems and was not able to train on Monday.
Carlos Marchena, Vicente Rodriguez, Marco Caneira and Edu are also carrying knocks.
