Broke into the Brazilian national side in 1995 and has been the first choice left back ever since and is widely recognized as one of the top 3 left backs in the world.

Moved to Real Madrid for just £3 million in 1996 after just one season at Inter Milan, who bought him from Palmeiras. Lightning quick, and exceptional going forward - though his defending is sometimes suspect, especially in the air where his lack of height is a major disadvantage.

Has one of the most powerful shots in football, just lacks accuracy with his shooting. When he gets it right the results are spectacular, just ask Fabien Barthez who had no chance with a free kick that seemed to be going yards wide before curling back to hit the corner of the net.
