A full Welsh international who scored the winner against Germany in 2002. He also scored 35 goals for his club in the 2002-03 season.
Robert Earnshaw Transfer Rumours 12 10 2007 Mick McCarthy has told Wales boss John Toshack to keep out of his team selections.
Toshack is unhappy Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood has only started once since the last Euro 2008 qualifiers against Germany and Slovakia.
McCarthy has gone with Andy Keogh and Stephen Elliott as his first-choice strike pairing in recent weeks.
And the former Republic of Ireland manager says he will do what is best for Wolves, not Wales, when picking his team.
"Good old Tosh," McCarthy told the Daily Express. "I hope Wales play well in their next two games because someone might then ask me what I think. This debate about me not picking Freddy is not worrying me in the slightest. When I had quite a successful spell as an international manager with Ireland, I had an unwritten rule that I would never comment on what league managers did. They pick their team and I pick mine. I never once tried to pick theirs and I used to get really annoyed when they tried to pick mine. These days, as I am getting nearer to 50 than 40, it doesn't really concern me. But I really do find it bizarre. It comes down to what I decide with Wolves. I don't want people to try to start drumming up trouble. I care what the fans think and they want to see a team that is winning. They have to trust me. I will do what I think is the right thing to do with Freddy."
Toshack has also had to watch Robert Earnshaw used only sporadically by Derby since his £3.5million move in the summer.
The Wales chief has attempted to cool the situation with McCarthy, saying: "I must emphasise I was not being critical of any club manager. I was simply making the point that when Freddy Eastwood and Rob Earnshaw went for big money in the summer, it was good news for Wales. But the fact they are not playing does not help us."
02 10 2007 Wales manager John Toshack has said he is concerned about the future of Derby striker Robert Earnshaw.
The 26-year-old has not scored or played a full 90 minutes of football at international level for nine months.
But despite spending much of that time out with a torn groin, Toshack said: "I've been a little bit concerned about Earnie for some time. It's quite alarming that there have been no goals and no 90-minute performances in nine months."
Earnshaw has been included in the Wales squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers in Cyprus on 13 October and San Marino on 17 October.
But Toshack's striking options are limited, with Craig Bellamy a doubt through injury, Earnshaw not starting for Derby and Freddy Eastwood also out of favour at Wolves.
Wycombe striker Jermaine Easter is the fourth striker in the squad, but he is not playing either after falling out with his club Wycombe after a move to Plymouth collapsed.
But Toshack's main concern was for Earnshaw who has since scored 12 goals in 36 games for his country, despite having played the full 90 minutes on eight occasions.
"Earnie has got to start to have a good look at himself now," said Toshack.
"We can't keep going on and on thinking about what Earnie did years ago. It's what he's doing now. In nine months, although he's been operated on during that period, he's had no 90-minute game. We are being as patient as we can with him but there will come a time when we will say you've got to start getting 90 minute matches in."
01 10 2007 Wales have problems in attack after naming their squad for the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and San Marino.
Captain Craig Bellamy, who inspired a 5-2 win in Slovakia last month, is included by manager John Toshack even though he has missed West Ham United FC's last three games with a groin strain.
The manager's other options – Freddie Eastwood, Robert Earnshaw and Jermaine Easter – are all out of favour at their clubs.
Wigan Athletic FC midfielder Jason Koumas is included after missing the Slovakia trip through injury. Wales play Cyprus in Nicosia, on 13 October and face San Marino in Serravalle four days later.
