Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi said that that the Ducali have made a bid for Man Utd's Azzurrini star Giuseppe Rossi.
The American born marksman developed in Parma's youth system before joining the Old Trafford club and returning last season on loan.
Rossi shone in his spell at the Stadio Tardini with 9 vital goals in 19 outings and Ghirardi expects he could return on a permanent basis.
'2 days ago we spoke to the Man Utd directors and they informed us that Rossi was for sale,' he revealed. 'We made an offer and we are waiting for a reply. Signing Rossi could be an excellent move that could be perfectly in keeping with the ethos of the club.'
It is thought that Rossi's future could depend on whether or not the English champions have completed the signing of West Ham's Carlos Tevez.
Ghirardi's comments came at the unveiling of Parma's summer signings, that included Reginaldo who signed from Fiorentina Thursday.
The Brazilian hitman's arrival was overshadowed not only by talk of Rossi, and also by the Parmigiani chief's comments about the David Di Michele transfer saga.
The Roman forward had looked all set to join Parma before making a last minute U turn and signing for Torino.
'Palermo conducted themselves correctly, however the agent did not,' he explained.
'We never mentioned that the deal was done, however we had an agreement with the player before the agent changed his mind.'

Parma confirm they have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Reginaldo from Fiorentina.
The Gialloblu are looking to strengthen their attacking department as they await the news of whether or not Giuseppe Rossi will be linking up with them again.
Should the Man Utd player agree to return then he will be playing alongside with the 23 year old Samba player who impressed late last term with his Tuscan club.
'Parma announce the signing of Ferreira da Silva Reginaldo on a permanent basis from Fiorentina. He has signed a 5 year contract,' read a note on the Ducali's website. 'The player will be unveiled Friday.'
The deal was already said last week when Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi admitted that that an agreement was reached with the Viola.
The £3 million move was finalised Thursday when the forward returned from his holiday in Brazil.
Reginaldo started his career with Treviso in 2000, however he left last summer after 6 years to join Fiorentina following the Biancocelesti's relegation to Serie B, appearing 27 times for the Gigliati.
