Nuri Sahin Rumours and Transfers

06 07 2007

Feyenoord sign teenaged Turkish international Nuri Sahin on a one year loan from BV Borussia Dortmund.

Playmaker Nuri, 18, came to prominence as the player of Turkey′s win at the 2005 UEFA European U17 Championship, going on to win the Bronze Ball as the 3rd best player at the subsequent FIFA U17 World Cup.

The same year he became both the youngest player and youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history before making his full debut for Turkey, scoring in a 2-1 friendly defeat of Germany, his country of birth.

Nuri, once described by Arsene Wenger as "one of the world′s largest talents", has welcomed the temporary transfer to the Netherlands. "I′m really looking forward to playing here and I think this transfer is very good for my development," he said.

"My aim is to play as much as possible, and when I look at the team I think we would get in among the medals." Nuri managed only 11 starts for Dortmund last season, taking his Bundesliga appearance total to 47.

It was recently-appointed Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk who gave Nuri his break whilst in charge at Dortmund, a position he relinquished last December, and the Dutchman is pleased to welcome the youngster to Rotterdam.

"Nuri is a versatile left footed player with unbelievable technique," Van Marwijk said. "He can play anywhere in midfield, however with all the new arrivals he was in danger of dropping down the pecking order at Borussia. That′s why Nuri really would like to come to Feyenoord, to have more opportunities to play."
