Nuno Valente

Full Name: Jorge Pereira Silva Nuno Valente
Birth Date: 12/09/1974
Birth Place: Lisbon
Birth Nation: Portugal
Height: 180cm
Weight: 76kg
Nationality: Portugese
Position: Defender

Nuno started his career with Portugese second division club Portimonense where he spent two seasons before being spotted by a Sporting Lisbon scout and he joined the Portugese giants.

First team chances were hard to come by at Sporting, though he did win the Portugese Cup in 1995, and he was loaned to CS Maritimo for the 1996/7 season.

There Valente was spotted by Jose Mourinho, then manager of Uniao de Leiria, and joined them soon after. Mourinho took over FC Porto and made Valente and his team mate Derlei his first two signings.

Valente was a member of Jose Mourinho's side that clinched the 2003 UEFA Cup and 2004 European Champions League and successive league titles. Valente played for his country in Euro 2004 as they were runners-up.

But the following season Nuno was plagued by injuries and failed to recapture his form. A £1.5 million pound move to Everton in August 2005 followed, ending the Toffee's search for a left back following the long term injuries suffered by Alessandro Pistone and Gary Naysmith.

Unfortunately he suffered an injury hit season which stopped him from really getting into his stride in the English Premier League. Nuno still got into the 2006 World Cup squad for his country and play in 6 games for Portugal while there.
