Anderlecht moved within a point of leaders Racing Genk with a 3-1 win at Germinal Beerschot in the Belgian first division on Sunday.
Genk, who beat bottom club Lierse 3-0 on Saturday, are top on 44 points after 19 games with Anderlecht a point behind.
Standard Liege, who won 5-2 at Charleroi on Friday, are third on 37 points with Ghent who won 3-0 at Excelsior Mouscron.
A 1-0 home defeat for fifth-placed Club Bruges by local rivals Roeselare was enough to see Emilio Ferrera sacked as coach on Sunday and replaced by Serbian Cedo Janevski.
Anderlecht's Mohammed Tchite opened the scoring two minutes before the break at Beerschot and doubled their lead on the hour before Francois Sterchele pulled one back 12 minutes later.
Marcin Wasilewski wrapped up the scoring for the visiting champions when he slotted home eight minutes from time.
Lierse remain at the foot of the table on only nine points with Beveren and Mons eight points above them. Beveren lost 2-0 at Westerlo while Mons were beaten 1-0 by Sint Truiden.
