Michael Ricketts started his career as a footballer at Walsall in 1996. He scored 14 goals in 31 games for the Saddlers before attracting interest from bigger clubs

Bolton Wanderers signed Ricketts from Walsall for ?400,000
during the summer of 2000 just after Walsall had been relegated Ricketts started his Bolton career as something of a supersub, netting 24 goals for the Trotters in his debutand promotion-clinching campaign

He fell out with Allardyce, so he played much of the remainder of the season from the bench. He still managed to net 15 goals in his debut Premiership season - but he didn't score after January 16. He was eligible to play for Jamaica but in February Sven Goran Eriksson gave him his international debut. Ricketts played the first half of the international friendly against Holland.
