Marco Marchionni will not require surgery for a broken metatarsal, however the Juve winger will be out for 3 months.

The former Empoli man broke the 5th metatarsal bone in his left foot during training for their English tour last week and X-rays said the initial diagnosis.

Marchionni will be put in a protective cast for 40-45 days before starting rehabilitation, so he will not be back on the playing field for at least 3 months.

There were fears the fracture would require surgery and an even longer lay-off, however the Bianconeri medical staff found that was not necessary.

It is a bitter blow for Marchionni, who was one of the most impressive players in his team during the pre season friendlies.

Obviously he is out of the team travelling to Naples for tomorrow's high profile Trofeo Birra Moretti, a tournament against Napoli and Inter.

The other top players missing out for Juve are Gianluigi Buffon, who suffered a muscular problem in his left thigh during the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, Mauro Camoranesi, Pavel Nedved and Zdenek Grygera.

Former Italy manager Marcello Lippi thinks Inter and FC Barcelona will battle it out for the Champions League after their summer signings.

'At this moment in time there are 2 teams that represent fantasy football – Inter and FC Barcelona. They have Europe in the palm of their hand,' he informed the 'Gazzetta dello Sport.'

Both these sides were eliminated relatively early from the competition last season, however have strengthened their squads with some big money buys.

'Thierry Henry is one of those champions who makes the difference. Watching the Barcelona front line is breathtaking with Henry plus Leo Messi, Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o. It is crazy. David Suazo is, however, only as much of a good signing as Henry. He is the forward who perfectly completes the Nerazzurri attack. He is not only formidable when he bursts forward at speed, he has other qualities too and Roberto Mancini saw that.'

Suazo was at the centre of a tug of war between Inter and Milan, however in the end the Scudetto holders grabbed the ex Cagliari hitman for under £10 million.

Lippi also looked around at the rest of the football fraternity for the best summer transfer strategies.

'My friend Alex Ferguson reconsidered the semi-final defeat to Milan and reached the conclusion Man Utd had to strengthen their side. He brought in Owen Hargreaves, Anderson, Carlos Tevez and above all Carlos Nani, who I think is fantastic.'

The Rossoneri were unusually quiet, only signing teenager Alexandre Pato, who cannot make his competitive debut until January.

'He's definitely got class in abundance, however will only be evaluated a long way into the future,' mentioned the World Cup winning Coach.

A new operator on the market is Manchester City, who with Sven Goran Eriksson at the helm and a massive cash influx were making waves.

'The strike partnership of Rolando Bianchi and Valeri Bojinov can make its mark on the Premier League.'

Back in Serie A, Roma have brought in Juan from Bayer Leverkusen, however handed Cristian Chivu to rivals Inter.

'I'd said in terms of quality there is no change. They also signed players like Ludovic Giuly, Mauro Esposito and Ahmed Barusso, who left me open mouthed when I saw him play for Rimini in Serie B. Lazio have not revolutionised their side, confirming the most important players and adding several promising newcomers. I am curious to see what goalie Carrizo can do. I am also intrigued by Fiorentina's youth policy.'

Naturally, Lippi has a special regard for his former club Juve, who have completely revamped the side for their return to the top flight.

'You know who the best buys for Juve were? Gianluigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero, Pavel Nedved and Mauro Camoranesi. If these 4 old faces can have a good season, then the new players will also become important. You cannot do it the other way round. In any case, Juve have not finished their transfer campaign yet.'

There is one player that Lippi advises the Bianconeri to go for as soon as possible.

'One of my favourites is Ricardo Quaresma. The day I go back to coaching I will do everything probable to sign him. Quaresma might make any club have that extra step up in quality.'

President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli says that Juve will do all they can to keep forward David Trezeguet at the club.

The Frenchman is contracted to the Old Lady until 2008, however did make it clear that he was heading out of the club after scoring in the last match of the season against Spezia.

However, the Turin giants hope that that they can convince the forward to accept their new contract offer.

'We would like to keep him here and I think we can find an agreement,' mentioned Cobolli Gigli Tuesday afternoon.

'Obviously we require the player to show his availability to talk about things with us. Nevertheless, our objective is to keep him.'

Reports say that the former Monaco man is a serious transfer target for Valencia, whose sporting director Amedeo Carboni allegedly contacted Trezeguet's representatives recently.

'We are doing all we can to solve this issue and this is also true for Mauro Camoranesi, whose future will be clear in the next 3 or 4 weeks,' added the Bianconeri chief.

Cobolli Gigli also said reports that Empoli player Sergio Almiron is close to joining the Bianconeri after Vincenzo Iaquinta completed his move today.

'I hope we will be able to officially announce his capture at some stage next week,' continued the official.

In the meantime, Juve have today received a £72 million cash boost via an increase in capital which was voted for in April.

'We are pleased with this fact,' noted the President. 'It is vital for us because it allows us to make important plans for our transfer campaign.'

Didier Deschamps is still contacting Juve players and urging them to leave, accuses FIFA agent Vincenzo Morabito.

The surprising claim came after the French Coach abruptly resigned with 2 games to go in the Serie B season, having already secured promotion and 1st place.

David Trezeguet was the most upset by this turn of events and has since warned he too will walk out after refusing their 'ridiculous' contract extension.

'Deschamps is still calling some players in a bid to destabilise the locker room atmosphere,' said agent Morabito on 'Antenna 3' television.

'It is a very unfair and unprofessional thing to do. He is causing real trouble within the squad.'

Although Morabito did not name exact stars, the Italian media is certain he was referencing fellow Frenchman Trezeguet.

There are others involved too, such as Mauro Camoranesi, Federico Balzaretti – who is on the verge of a transfer to Fiorentina – and Jean-Alain Boumsong.

It is alleged that Deschamps is revealing the club hierarchy's dissatisfaction with certain players, as the matter was discussed with him before he handed in his resignation.

Meanwhile, Juve continue to be linked with every eligible player on the transfer market.

The latest is Dutch player Rafael Van der Vaart who, as stated by 'Bild', is one of the top targets.

The German newspaper claims that Pavel Nedved informed friends Hamburg man Van der Vaart was of real interest to Juve and could be willing to meet his £7 million price tag.

Mauro Camoranesi maybe on his way out of Juve after his agent failed to secure a contract extension for the right sided midfielder Wednesday.

Camoranesi's current deal ends in 2 years' time, however the 30 year old Italian World Cup winner is seeking to prolong his contract another year until 2010.

"I am disappointed and bitter," mentioned Camoranesi's agent Sergio Fortunato after a meeting with Juve director Alessio Secco.

"At this point we must look for a way out, because on these terms Mauro cannot stay with Juve. We are talking about one of the best midfielders in the world, a World Cup winner who has helped Juve triumph promotion back to Serie A. This will not do and Juve are mistaken if they think he will see out his contract."

Argentina born Camoranesi was signed by Juve in a co-ownership deal with Verona in 2002 before Juve bought him outright a year later.

12 06 2007

Mauro Camoranesi would leave Juve and would favour a transfer to one of Inter, AC Milan and Roma as stated by his agent.

The world champion is contracted to the Bianconeri until 2009, however the latest talks with the club to extend his deal have stalled over his wage demands.

'We have had no contact with any other outfits, we are attempting to solve the situation here,' explained agent Sergio Fortunato.

'Mauro will consider another option if Juve refuse to give him what he thinks he deserves to earn,' added the player's representative.

The Bianconero has stated in the past few months that the difference between the financial offer and the amount he was asking for is significant.

'If Mauro were to leave, he will only play for one of Inter, Milan and Roma. The Nerazzurri and Coach Roberto Mancini asked for the player last summer,' continued Fortunato.

'At Roma there is a £1.7 million salary cap? That is what Mauro earns here at Juve, where his wage is half of what the important players are currently paid,' concluded Fortunato.

David Trezeguet has also warned Juve that he is ready to leave the Old Lady, as he thinks that the club does not respect him inspite of his status as Juve's all time top foreign scorer with 140 goals.

08 06 2007

Mauro Camoranesi is unhappy with how he is treated at Juve and is tempted by Roma, as stated by the winger's agent.

The Bianconero, whose current deal expires in 2009, had stated in the past few months that he was undecided on his future and the latest talks with the club have not had a positive outcome.

'Things are not okay, we are in total disagreement with Juve,' mentioned agent Sergio Fortunato.

'The difference between the financial offer and what we are asking for is significant,' added the Argentine born player's representative.

'Roma could be an excellent alternative, he can play in all the midfield roles. He would also find 3 World Cup winning teammates that he has an excellent relationship with, that included Francesco Totti. The Giallorossi captain had already invited Camoranesi to join Roma last year, however in the end the move failed,' he explained.

Fortunato makes no secret of the fact that his client was expecting something different after he decided to remain with Juve in Serie B.

'Camoranesi is mainly disappointed with the way Juve are treating him, he does not like it at all. We had already fought with the club last year after the demotion, however the player then agreed to play in the Second Division. However, now we think that the men who had taken to remain in Serie B should receive recognition for their decision,' concluded the agent.
