Luke Steele started his career as a trainee with his hometown club, Peterborough United and was handed a contract in August of 1999 Steele only played two matches for the Posh, he made his Football League debut in a 2-2 draw at Reading, and played in a 2-1 home win over Bury which were the last two games of the 2001/02 season
After this Luke went on loan spell with Man United in March 2002 because they were interested in him. During his loan
spell, he played in two reserve games for United. Then on May 12 2002 the England Under 18 international signed a four year contract but can rise to 5 million depending on his success with the Red Devils Steele was also included in Man United's 2002/03 UEFA Champions League squad Peterborough manager Barry Fry said of Luke Steele: "I have watched him develop in the six years I have been here. He's got fantastic potential and he's the best goalkeeping prospect I have ever seen at the age of 17."
