Japan striker Keiji Tamada has been sidelined for at least five weeks after suffering a broken foot.

The 27-year-old Nagoya Grampus Eight striker, who was a member of the Japan squad who won the Asian Cup in 2004, suffered the injury during training last week.

Tamada was also a member of the Japan squad at the World Cup in Germany and scored during the 4-1 defeat by Brazil.

Japan's preparations for the Asian Cup have already suffered a setback after Kashima Antlers striker Atsushi Yanagisawa was ruled out of the tournament after also breaking a foot.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury after scoring twice in the Antlers′ 2-1 J-League victory against Shimizu S-Pulse and has been sidelined for at least three months.

Defending champions Japan, who have won three of the last four tournaments, begin their Asian Cup challenge against Qatar on July 9 before rounding off their Group B campaign against the UAE and co-hosts Vietnam.
