Joseph Yobo signed a 1 year loan contract with Everton which
he made a permanent deal in the summer. Joseph Yobo has quick pace and has converted from the position of striker to defender. He has been on the books of Standard Liege and has had a loan spell in Spain with Tenerife

He played in several different positions in the Super Eagles three matches in the World Cup in Japan and was probably the star of the Nigerian team, he even provided the assist for his sides only goal of the tournament. Yobo became the first signing made by David Moyes, nearly four months into the job as manager of Everton

After passing a medical, Joseph signed an initial 12-month contract with the Blues, with an option for a further four years in July 2002 from French side, Marseille. Everton beat off competition from other teams including Italian champions, Juventus. and also Newcastle United
