John Terry won the 1998-99 Chelsea Young Player of the Year award in his first year, ahead of older members of the youth team. Terry made his debut for Chelsea in a Worthington's cup tie against Aston Villa in the 1999-2000 season. He went out on loan to Nottingham Forest for six weeks at the end of that season, playing six games.
In 2000/01, he won Chelsea's Player of the Year award. 2001/02 was a big season for Terry, as a regular for Chelsea, making 49 appearances. He scored the winning goals in the FA Cup quarter and semi finals. He made a number of appearances for England Under 21s and was captain for a few games. However, his international chances were ruined after an incident involving a bouncer at the Wellington Club in Knightsbridge.
Terry along with team-mate Jody Morris and Wimbledon defender Des Byrne were arrested and charged with affray. Terry was banned from playing for England at all levels until the case was settled. The player was cleared of all charges in August 2002. John picked up an FA Cup runners-up medal in 2002.
John Terry Rumours and Transfers

John Terry is hoping to be back in action within a month following knee surgery.
The Chelsea captain saw the injury flare up whilst on international duty with England and it forced him out of their crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia.
Now Terry has gone under the knife and he is hopeful that he will be back in action sooner, rather than later.
"I'm back in the treatment room but it is not all doom and gloom," stated the England skipper.
"I'm out for around four weeks. It's a new injury. I got a bit of floating bone trapped under the knee joint and the only way to remove it was surgery. I'm already working my socks off to get fit and get back."

Chelsea will still be without John Terry and Ashley Cole for tonight's clash against Schalke in the Champions League.
Terry is out for up to three weeks after undergoing knee surgey last Friday, while Cole is facing even longer on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage.
There are no fresh injury worries for Avram Grant, who has welcomed Wayne Bridge back to the squad ahead of the Stamford Bridge clash. The boss looks set to tinker with his squad and Andriy Shevchenko could be set to lead the attack as the Blues look for back-to-back wins in the competition.
Jose Mourinho has sent Chelsea captain John Terry a 'get well soon' text message after the defender's knee op.
Terry, 26, has been upset by accusations he was partly to blame for Mourinho's departure and that he has fallen out with team-mates such as Didier Drogba as a result.
But yesterday Terry, who is expected to be out for four weeks after a knee operation to remove a piece of floating bone, had a glut of text messages and was delighted to find one from Mourinho saying: "Speedy recovery".
A source close to Terry told the Daily Mail: "JT's buzzing. This meant a lot to him."

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has expressed his surprise at the way some national teams prepare for matches by giving players time off.
The Spaniard has long complained clubs lose their players too early for internationals and get them back too late ahead of crucial league matches.
In the past he has advocated a change in the system by playing the first match of a double-header international in midweek rather than at the weekend and after the latest round of fixtures he is even more convinced improvements need to be made.
"I was surprised watching some national teams that in the week of preparation they have days off," said Benitez.
"You send your players away and after that they (the countries) have control of everything. So it is better to go, play on Wednesday and play on Sunday and then come back and then we (clubs) will control the players."
Benitez also backed his captain Steven Gerrard to recover quickly from England's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Russia which has lengthened their chances of qualifying for Euro 2008.
The midfielder, leading the national side in the absence of injured John Terry, was criticised for missing a chance to make it 2-0 in Moscow last night which would have put a different complexion on the match.
However, Benitez said that would not affect Gerrard, whom he expected to be highly-motivated for Saturday's Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park.
"It was disappointing because he had a good chance but hopefully he will be better in the next games," said the Spaniard.
"Because he is a player with character and a good mentality he will try to score a goal if he has a chance like this [again]. He has experience and he knows Saturday will be a different game."

England captain John Terry has almost certainly been ruled out of Wednesday crunch UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier in Russia shortly after being deemed fit enough to play.
A knee injury meant the Chelsea central defender missed England's 3-0 victory over Estonia at the weekend but it was believed he had recovered sufficiently to play.
England manager Steve McClaren said on Tuesday: "John Terry is almost certainly ruled out of tomorrow's match. His knee locked towards the end of training and he could not complete the session."
An England victory would seal their place in the finals, which will be hosted jointly by Austria and Switzerland.

John Terry is on course to figure in England's crucial Euro 2008 qualifying clash with Russia in Moscow.
The England captain had been a major doubt after picking up a knee injury in training last week which forced him to sit out Saturday's 3-0 win over Estonia.
However, Terry was able to train in Altrincham this morning as Steve McClaren's side tried out the controversial 'field-turf' which will be used on Wednesday in the Luzhniki Stadium, at the Thomas Holford Catholic College.
England's medical staff gave Terry the green light to fly out of Manchester with his team-mates.
A spokesman explained: "John trained today and came through the session with no problems. He will continue to be monitored by the England medical staff and assessed for any reaction."

Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard will captain England against Estonia in John Terry's absence.
With usual captain Terry out of Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier, head coach Steve McClaren has asked Gerrard to take the armband.
Gerrard is hopeful Terry will be fit enough to return against Russia on Wednesday, but is happy to be captain in his absence.
"I think JT's got a bit of a knee problem. Hopefully he'll be able to play on Wednesday," he said live on Sky Sports News.
"The manager has told me I'm skipper. To be captain at the new Wembley will be a special day for myself."
With Frank Lampard fit and available following injury, the question has been asked who Gerrard would rather play alongside.
Aston Villa ace Gareth Barry was superb for England against Israel and Russia, but is not guaranteed to retain his place against Estonia.
However, Gerrard does not mind who McClaren opts to select to play alongside him in midfield.
"They are all great midfielders, whether it's Gareth or Frank," he continued. "That's a difficult decision for the manager. I feel comfortable playing alongside both of them."
England can book their place in Austria and Switzerland next summer with back-to-back wins, although Gerrard is not taking Estonia lightly.
"It's difficult. It's around the corner and it's a massive game. We have one eye on the Russia game," he continued.
"We can only enjoy a big, big night in Russia if we're professional (against Estonia)."

Sol Campbell will start England's UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier against Estonia in place of injured captain John Terry, head coach Steve McClaren confirmed on the eve of the match.
Confirmation of the Portsmouth defender's recall to the national team came after Terry suffered an injury to his left knee that is also threatening to rule him out of Wednesday's clash with Russia in Moscow.
"To be able to call on someone with that experience and quality is tremendous," McClaren said of his decision to recall Campbell. "His reaction has been excellent, as expected."
The former Arsenal player has not been capped for his country since the 2006 FIFA World Cup and has not started a competitive match for England in two years.
And although he has revived his career at Portsmouth, there are doubts about the 33-year-old's physical ability to come through two matches in the space of four days, should he also be required for the Russia match.
McClaren's options in the centre of defence have been reduced by the loss of Wes Brown to a knee injury and Jamie Carragher's decision to quit international football.
If either Campbell or Rio Ferdinand pick up injuries on Saturday and Terry is unable to return to the side, McClaren could switch Micah Richards into the centre of defence, where he now plays for Manchester City, and draft in Phil Neville as a stand-in right-back.

Joleon Lescott and Dean Ashton have been included in the England squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers with Estonia and Russia.
Everton defender Lescott was called up for the last matches and is rewarded for his consistency and a purple patch in front of goal.
West Ham attacker Ashton returns to the fold after recovering from a broken ankle he suffered last year whilst with the England squad.
There were no real surprises in Steve McClaren's party as Wayne Rooney returns from injury and captain John Terry aims to play in the protective mask he wore for Chelsea in midweek.
Scott Carson (Aston Villa), David James (Portsmouth), Paul Robinson (Tottenham); Wes Brown (Manchester United), Sol Campbell (Portsmouth), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Phil Neville (Everton), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Nicky Shorey (Reading), John Terry (Chelsea); Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), David Bentley (Blackburn), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Dean Ashton (West Ham), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andy Johnson (Everton), Michael Owen (Newcastle), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Alan Smith (Newcastle).

Chelsea captain John Terry has declared himself fit for international duty with England, despite fracturing a cheekbone against Fulham last weekend.
It had been feared Terry would miss England's UEFA EURO 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia later this month after his horror injury.
But Terry wore a protective face mask in Chelsea's UEFA Champions League victory at Valencia in midweek.
"I am definitely going to be ready for England. I'm fit now and no excuses," he said. "It was okay playing in the mask. I got used to it in training and didn't have any problems at all. As long as I am wearing my mask in games it is going to fully protect me. I just have to be careful."
Chelsea's victory in Valencia was a repeat of their success in the Mestalla in last year's competition but this time Joe Cole and Didier Drogba scored the goals that mattered.
Cole tapped home Chelsea's equaliser to cancel out David Villa's ninth-minute opener and Drogba struck a second-half winner.
Cole had a particularly outstanding game and he felt that, after all the upheaval, the team was finally back on track for the first time under Grant.
Cole declared: "We felt like we were really back but it is only a start and we are not going to get too excited. We have set the standard now and we have to keep winning. We have never had doubts it would come good but we need to do it again at Bolton on Sunday. I think we found the extra 5-10 percent we needed at Valencia. In bad situations, the worst thing players can do is start pointing fingers at each other. We all took that on board and had to look at ourselves and perform better. Those guts and togetherness are why we have had so much success."
