Hearts of Oak Football Club

16 April 2007

Hearts of Oak moved to within one point of winning the premier league after a 2-0 win at Heart of Lions.

Hearts made virtually sure of the title as Stanley Afedzie and Ekow Ghansah scored in each half against the fourth placed Lions.

Hearts can only be caught by AshantiGold who won 1-0 at relegation-threatened Bofoakwa Tano, but it would require a major swing in goal difference for the former African champions to miss out on 19th title.

Champions Asante Kotoko suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Sekondi Hasaacas to drop to third on 48 points, seven behind Hearts with two matches each left in the season. AshantiGold have 49 points.

Norway goalkeeper Thomas Myhre has agreed to return home to sign for Viking FK almost ten years after leaving the club to play in the English Premiership.

The 33-year-old will join Viking in the summer after his contract at Charlton Athletic FC expires, agreeing a deal that will keep him in Stavanger until the end of the 2010 campaign.

Viking beat off competition from Lillestrøm SK, Rosenborg BK, Stabæk IL and Vålerenga IF to sign the 54-times capped international.

"I have fond memories from my five years at the club and the choice was made even easier as my family wanted to return to Stavanger," said the former Everton FC and Sunderland AFC goalkeeper.

Coach Uwe Rösler added: "I am delighted to be able to include Norway's goalkeeper in my squad from the summer."

Meanwhile, Viking's league rivals IK Start have signed Ghanaian midfielder Anthony Annan from Hearts of Oak FC on a contract that will last until the end of the 2009 season.

"He is a solid midfielder with amazing ball control," said coach Stig Inge Bjørnebye.
