AEK Athens moved back up to second place in the Greek Super League with a 3-1 win over Aris on Saturday.
AEK have 49 points, one more than Panathinaikos, who face runaway leaders Olympiakos in the big Athens derby on Sunday. Olympiakos are 10 points clear.
Brazilian striker Gustavo Manduca gave AEK the lead over fourth-placed Aris when he converted a penalty in the 55th minute.
Nikos Liberoulos added the second, his 13th of the season, in the 74th minute, shortly before Aris were reduced to ten men when Australian-born Avraam Papadopoulos was shown the red card.
Brazilian Rogerio Belem pulled one back for Aris before Pantelis Kapetanos secured maximum points for AEK in the last minute.
Xanthi moved away from the drop zone and towards a possible UEFA Cup spot when they beat relegated Ionikos 2-0, the goals coming in the second half from Vlasis Kazakis and Argentine midfielder Mariano Messera.
