South African forward Glen Salmon is hoping that his move to AZ Alkmaar will be finalised in the near future.
The 29 year old, who finished last season on loan at NAC Breda, is the free agent with his FC Groningen contract almost at an end.
AZ and Heerenveen are interested in acquiring the frontman′s services, with the player favouring a transfer to the former. The Alkmaar club claim they signed Salmon if Danny Koevermans will leave the club.
"A top club, that is something you would like to go to", Salmon said to newspaper BN/De Stem. "As a player it′s normal that you would like to become better.
"I heard that Louis van Gaal is keen on me, which is nice to hear. However, whether I will get this chance is something we must wait for".
Salmon says Alkmaar would still be his preferred destination even if an offer from abroad was on the table.
"Even then I would make the choice to go for AZ", he said. Salmon has not spoken to Heerenveen inspite of the Friesland club′s interest.
"Because we are looking for a new environment, it′s not our intention to return to the north", Salmon said, recalling his spell at FC Groningen. "That′s why I did not make a decision yet about their offer".
