He then moved to Manchester City in August 1995 for illion and, during three seasons at Maine Road, he became the fans' favourite but left City following their relegation to Division Two. Georgi left City for Ajax in May 1998 who paid million for him but while there he suffered a loss of form and confidence and so returned to English football with Derby County on loan to begin with in November 1999 then the loan became a permanent move in April 2000 with Derby
Injuries hampered Giorgi's 2000/01 season with a constant groin problem but he managed to make over 20 appearances for the Rams, mostly as a substitute. However when Jim Smith was replaced by Colin Todd, Kinkladze was dropped from the team and his reaction was unprecedented in English football.
He brought in a legal representative and met with Todd to discuss why he had been left out of the team. He managed to get himself back in the first team with good performances in the reserves. Kinkladze began 2003 well and will be hoping to maintain that form
