Real Salt Lake have said that Benfica has agreed a fee for Freddy Adu.
The U.S. U20 player will fly to Lisbon Sunday to have completed the transfer by signing a 5 year contract with the Portuguese giants.
"Major League Soccer and Real Salt Lake have given permission to Freddy Adu to travel to Europe to continue talks with Portuguese club Benfica," read a statement from RSL coach Jason Kreis.
"We would like to thank Freddy for his time here and wish him the best of luck. Our organization will continue to focus and concentrate on the 2nd half of the MLS season, with our recent success against Everton and Boca Juniors serving as a springboard towards a new start."

Benfica are closing in on the capture of U.S international Freddy Adu, as stated by reports in Portugal.
The Lisbon giants will hold talks with the Real Salt Lake youngster after supposedly agreeing a €2 million (£1.35m) deal with MLS.
Negotiations are thought to be advanced between the parties and now Benfica hope to talk terms with the Ghana born starlet.
"Now is the time to speak to the player," said Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira.
Whilst Adu is keen on furthering his career in Europe, he says he will not be rushing his decision to join Benfica.
"I do not want to rush my decision, because it is my life,"Adu informed the Salt Lake Tribune.
"It is a very important decision and I would like to take my time in making that decision. I am only letting my agent talk to them and only work out the logistics and take care of that end of it."
