04 08 2007

Livorno beat Carrarese 2-1 in tonight's friendly, however Vikash Dhorasoo's injury nightmare continues.

Fernando Orsi's men emerged with the win in their pre season test, even though they were without the injured Fausto Rossini and Dhorasoo.

Former Milan midfielder Dhorasoo returns to France for a new medical examination and will not even make the trip to Greece for the games with AEK Athens and PAOK.

Summer signing Francesco Volpe opened the scoring when Simone Pavan held up a Massimo Loviso free kick for the former Ravenna hitman.

Livorno stepped up a gear after the break and Francesco Tavano threatened, however it was a Luis Vidigal diving header that secured the win.

Carrarese pulled one back through Baronetto from the penalty spot late on.

Livorno sign Spanish forward Diego Tristan on a one year contract.

Tristan was available on a free transfer after leaving Mallorca and has opted for a transfer to Serie A.

The forward, along with Francesco Tavano, will help to compensate Livorno for the recent departure of the talismanic Cristiano Lucarelli.

An option for a further 12 months was included in Tristan's contract and the former Deportivo La Coruna hit man is anxious to start his Livorno career.

"I am looking forward to starting," Tristan informed Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I hoped everything would end positively and that I can soon start this new experience. I have a big wish to restart."

Livorno President Aldo Spinelli warns Lazio he will only accept £5 million cash for Marco Amelia and not player exchanges.

The goalie was repeatedly linked with the Stadio Olimpico side after Angelo Peruzzi chose to hang up his gloves in the summer.

'Negotiations are simply not happening,' said Spinelli. 'Lazio have only offered us other players in exchange, however we have a 26 man team and are not looking for anyone else. Either Lazio have given us the money we have requested, or Amelia will stay where he is. Livorno require their goalkeeper.'

The shot stopper with a World Cup winner's medal has also been of interest to Betis, Sevilla and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Next week Livorno will present their 4 new transfers to the Press – Francesco Tavano, Fausto Rossini, Massimo Loviso and Emanuele Filippini.

After agreeing a deal for Francesco Tavano and Fausto Rossini, Livorno have also captured ex Milan midfielder Vikash Dhorasoo.

President Aldo Spinelli had said at the next big signing in an interview with 'La Repubblica' newspaper this morning.

'A very strong midfielder of good prestige. There are too lots of vultures circling, so I can only confirm he is a famous French international.'

Now the media in Italy claim that man is Dhorasoo, a former Olympique Lyonnais and Milan player.

Although he featured in the 2006 World Cup for losing Finalists France, Dhorasoo was out of contract after he was sensationally sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in September.

The midfielder was booted out of the club for calling Coach Guy Lacombe 'a liar' and has also launched vitriolic attacks on French manager Raymond Domenech.

This could be his return to Serie A after an unsuccessful season at Milan, where he made only 12 appearances in 2004-05.

During his time on the sidelines, Dhorasoo was linked with Bolton, Lyon, Parma and had a trial with Fulham.

Livorno have also supposedly signed Juve youngster Francesco Volpe on a co-ownership deal after the forward returned from a loan spell at Ravenna.

It was an exhilarating week for the Amaranto, who also picked up Tavano from Valencia and hitman Rossini from Catania.

'For Tavano we worked in silence and the news only leaked out once everything had already been signed, otherwise he would have been grabbed away,' added President Spinelli.

'He is the ideal player to replace Igor Protti and partner Cristiano Lucarelli. We have in the end found a Number 10 worthy of Protti.'

29 06 2007

Cristiano Lucarelli's future could yet be with Livorno after President Aldo Spinelli said that the Amaranto idol will not be leaving in the summer.

After 4 seasons with the Labronici, Lucarelli had seemed determined to leave his hometown club following constant disputes with Spinelli and even the fans.

Lucarelli was heavily linked with rivals Fiorentina at the end of the last campaign and agent Carlo Pallavicino stated that he has received several offers for the No 99.

However, there were no publicised bids for the prolific Tuscan hitman and the outspoken Tuscan chief is adamant that he will start the coming season at the Stadio Armando Picchi.

'I am 100 per cent sure that Lucarelli will stay, I have no interest in selling him,' he informed Repubblica TV.

With Francesco Tavano thought to be on the way from Valencia, Lucarelli could be tempted to remain put and form a mouth-watering strike partnership.

By contrast, Spinelli seems willing enough to see talented goalie Marco Amelia leave inspite of supposedly rejecting an offer of £3 million from Spanish side Levante.

27 06 2007

Francesco Tavano is on the verge of joining Livorno after Valencia supposedly had taken the Tuscans' offer of £4 million.

The former Empoli player moved to Roma in a January loan deal after failing to settle in La Liga after his transfer last summer.

However, his limited impact with the Giallorossi caused the capital city club to decide against taking up the option to buy out his contract.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Spanish club has in the end agreed to Livorno's offer and the final details expect to be ironed out by the end of the day.

Tavano had stated over the past few months that he was keen on staying in Italy it had taken the Tuscan minnows a long negotiation process to persuade Los Che to accept their £4 million bid.

'I am extremely optimistic of Tavano's arrival from Valencia, we hope that the contract will be signed soon,' grinned an obviously pleased Amaranto President Aldo Spinelli.

Tavano was also a reported target for Catania, as Coach Silvio Baldini worked with the player at Empoli and was keen on adding the 28 year old.

In the meantime, the Labronici have supposedly discarded a £3 million offer from Levante for goalie Marco Amelia, even though Spinelli would let the world champion leave for around £6 million.

17 06 2007

Emanuele and Antonio Filippini will play together again at Livorno next season, as stated by reports.

The 2 twin brothers made their name by forming a good midfield partnership at Brescia, Lazio and Treviso, however were split up since leaving the Stadio Tenni in 2006.

Antonio was playing with Livorno this season and brother Emanuele in Serie B for Bologna, however they will come together again in Tuscany.

Although there is no official confirmation as yet, it is thought a deal has already been struck by Livorno President Aldo Spinelli.

The Amaranto are also still tracking Francesco Tavano, who is owned by Valencia and spent the last 6 months on loan with Roma.

The Spaniards are holding out for £5m, whereas the offer currently stands at only under £4 million.

15 06 2007

Serie A minnows Livorno are in talks with Valencia over a proposed swoop for Francesco Tavano.

The latter is on the market after struggling to make an impact with the Spaniards since his £7 million move last summer.

Tavano arrived in Spain after a sensational season at Empoli, however was loaned to Roma in January after failing to win a 1st team shirt.

Inspite of landing in the capital with renewed hopes, the attacker also made a limited impact in Rome which saw the club not take up their option to sign him outright.

Fiorentina and Sampdoria were associated since, however Livorno chief Aldo Spinelli was in touch with Valencia.

Spinelli is understood to offer Valencia sporting director Amedeo Carboni around £3.5 million however the Liga club are understood to want at least £5 million.

12 06 2007

Sampdoria director general Beppe Marotta has valued Fabio Quagliarella at over £10m, however mentioned that the Blucerchiati will do all they can to keep him.

The forward's impressive season was crowned by a brace in Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier against Lithuania, making him one of the hottest properties on the transfer market.

'We are evaluating his future, every decision must be taken with Udinese who co-own the player, however we have an excellent relationship with them,' Marotta informed Rai Radio Anch'io Sport.

'The player's value is set by the market itself,' he explained, having earlier claimed that they were unlikely to receive a bid which they deemed reasonable for the Azzurri newcomer.

'If I compare Quagliarella to Alberto Gilardino and Francesco Tavano, I would said that he can be considered intermediate between the 2 of them and can be valued at approximately £10-14 million. Obviously we would like to keep him and will do all we can, however we must consider the financial requires of both us and Udinese. In any case, we will only consider extraordinary offers, otherwise we will keep him.'

Marotta confirm there are lots of outfits interested in the player's services, especially due to his relatively young age.

'Many outfits are keen on signing Quagliarella, he is 23 years-old and can still improve a lot,' he explained.

We will do what we can to keep him, however we will be required to understand what other clubs are willing to offer,' concluded the Blucerchiato.

Quagliarella, a reported target for Juve and Man Utd, declared that he only would like to be granted continuous playing time.

'I am on a co-ownership deal and that could be renewed. The important thing now is for me to play consistently,' stated the Naples born forward after the win against Lithuania.
