FC Istres Football Club

11 August 2007

Although, as ever, there is no official word from the club, the Watford Observer have revealed that Johann Cavalli will leave the club on a free transfer next week.

Cavalli joined the club in January from French 2nd Division Istres and made his debut in the triumph at The Hammers in February. He went on to make another 2 appearances, one as substitute, failing to find the net.

Having earnt himself a reduced team number for the new season and made his mark in pre season with a few impressive displays against non league opposition. However it evidently meant very little as Cavalli starts the search for a new club. Foreign

It is yet to be said why the diminutive Frenchman will leave the club, however, if my memory does serve me correctly, his contract will end and he has yet to be offered a new deal by Aidy Boothroyd.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray signed midfielder Filipe Teixeira from Portuguese side Academica de Coimbra for £600,000.

The 26 year old signed a 3 year deal at the Hawthorns and joins Shelton Martis and Craig Beattie as new recruits in the summer.

Mowbray said, "Filipe is a creative midfielder from Portugal. He's a talented, very technical player who we identified and we are delighted he's joined us. He will hopefully play a big part in what we are attempting to achieve."

Teixeira started his career at Felgueiras before moving to French Ligue One club Istres in 2001.

He then enjoyed a spell alongside Ronaldinho at Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Coimbra in 2005.

Toulouse sign Swedish defender Jon Jonsson from Elfsborg, the French club's coach Elie Baup mentioned Friday.

The 23 year old's signature is the 3rd of the close season for Toulouse, who will play in the UEFA Champions League next season having finished 3rd in the French league.

Already joined are goalie Rudy Riou from Istres and forward Andre-Pierre Gignac from Lorient.

UEFA Champions League hopefuls Toulouse FC have agreed a deal to extend right back Albin Ebondo's contract by 2 years until 2010.

The 23 year old has only enjoyed his best season at the club where he started his professional career 6 years ago, scoring twice in 35 Ligue 1 starts.

"I were linked with several clubs however I'll stay here to play in the Champions League 3rd qualifying round," mentioned Ebondo.

He also has international aspirations with France, adding, "And why not get a cap with the national team?"

Toulouse previously signed goalie Rudy Riou from 2nd division side FC Istres.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux have handed Laurent Blanc his 1st coaching position with the former FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship winner replacing Ricardo Gomes.

"I were waiting for an offer like Bordeaux's for a long time," mentioned Blanc. "I was given several proposals in the recent past however I turned them down. I had a shortlist of 5 or 6 sides I would like to work with and Bordeaux was one of them. The others did not approach me due to my lack of experience. Right after I finished my playing career I decided to become a coach."

Capped 97 times by France, the 41 year old Blanc completed a professional coaching degree last season and puts pen on paper on a 2 year contract with the French League Cup holders, who will play in the UEFA Cup following their win against Olympique Lyonnais.

After starting out at Montpellier HSC, Blanc enjoyed a glittering playing career at clubs that included FC Barcelona, Olympique de Marseille and FC Inter Milano before retiring at Man Utd FC in 2003.

Ricardo, 42, returned from a holiday in his native country Brazil earlier this week and is appointed to the top position at AS Monaco FC yesterday. In 2 years with Bordeaux he guided the club to their 1st appearance in the UEFA Champions League in 6 seasons after finishing 2nd in Ligue 1 in 2005/06.

Monaco had previously parted company with Laurent Banide, the man who ensured their Ligue 1 status after a shaky start to the season. Blanc will be assisted by the 54 year old Jean-Louis Gasset, an experienced coach who has previously led SM Caen, Montpellier and FC Istres.
