VfB team manager Horst Heldt said, "Marco really would like to return to FC Basel and requested to be released from his contract. We found a solution which suited everyone. We wish him all the best for his future and hope that he can avoid serious injury."
Bierofka joined Stuttgart in the summer of 2005. Due to injury the German international managed only 13 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Streller's new club Basel, last season's runner up in the Swiss League, will play a friendly against Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on 14 July in Liechtenstein.
