Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved was banned for two matches Tuesday for elbowing an opponent in the Serie A last week.

Nedved was sent off in the closing minutes of Juventus' 1-0 win over Genoa on Sunday and will miss Saturday's game at Napoli and next week's match against Empoli.

The Italian soccer league's disciplinary committee also suspended Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri for one match after he was dismissed from the sidelines for protesting.

Five other players were also banned for one to three matches for various offenses.

It is not the first time Nedved has lashed out at a Genoa player. The midfielder received a five-match ban last season for deliberately stepping on an opponent at the Luigi Ferraris stadium, when both teams played in the second division.

Juventus is second in the Serie A with 17 points, three behind Inter Milan but five more than Genoa, which is tied for fifth.

Kaka could potentially miss Wednesday's Champions League meeting between AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk at the San Siro due to a knee injury.

Kaka sat out AC Milan's humiliating 1-0 home defeat to Empoli at the weekend in preparation for the impending Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk, but could potentially miss that tie, too.

The Brazilian maestro is a slight doubt for the Matchday 3 tie due to a knee injury - one that was earlier played down by Milanese vice-president Adriano Galliani.

First team coach Carlo Ancelotti, though, refused to guarantee Kaka's presence against the Ukrainians.

"We have one more day to see if he can recover or not," said the manager.

Reigning champions Milan have taken three points from six so far, beating Benfica in the first match before losing out 2-1 to Celtic in Scotland in the second.

Kaka, aged 25, has an all-time Champions League record of 23 goals in 54 games. The former Sao Paolo attacker also set up the winning goal in last season's final, AC Milan defeating Liverpool 2-1 in Greece.

Ronaldo could be set to be named in the AC Milan squad for the first time this season after recovering from an injury that has seen him miss the start of the new campaign.

The Brazilian has been sidelined after having a muscle injury wrongly diagnosed during the summer, but is now on the verge of making his long-awaited comeback.

Milan have struggled up front with Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi unable to find the net regularly and there have even been calls for the Rossoneri to dip into the transfer market in January.

Ronaldo's return will be very welcome for coach Carlo Ancelotti and he could be ready to name him on the bench for the game against Empoli next weekend.

Tests on Tuesday will reveal how the striker's injury has progressed and if that looks good then doctors will give him the green light to start playing again.

Despite scoring 13 goals this term, Milan are in eighth place in Serie A with just two wins from their opening seven matches.

Palermo supremo Maurizio Zamparini has hit out at Coach Stefano Colantuono after the Rosanero's 3-1 defeat at Empoli.

The Sicilians had led through Uruguayan youngster Edison Cavani, but they were hit by three second-half goals and lost 3-1.

The result was a shock given that the Aquile were unbeaten in four and had defeated Milan in midweek, while Empoli were searching for their first win of the campagn.

It seems that the heroics against the European champions were quickly forgotten by the fiery Zamparini.

'I am waiting for Colantuono to turn this group of excellent individuals into a team, just as Inter have,' he told Il Corriere dello Sport.

'I just saw a flimsy performance which was our worst of the season. Our position in the table is the result of moments of class rather than us playing well and Colantuono's sole task is to make us into a unit.'

Three points are a must for the ex-Atalanta boss as his men face Reggina in a crunch match next weekend.
