Heskey made his debut in 1995 for Leicester City. and was voted Leicester's young player of the year for the 1995/96 season. After being eased into the first team as a teenager at Leicester, Emile forged an excellent partnership with Tony Cottee
He made 30 appearances for the Foxes in 1995/96, which helped City earn promotion to the Premiership via the play offs. He won his first major honour in English football when Leicester beat Middlesbrough in the Worthington Cup final. He won the same honour in 2000 with a 2-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers and in 2001 when Liverpool beat Birmingham City. Emile starred alongside Michael Owen in the England Under-18 team which finished third in the European Championships in France.
Heskey made his England debut in the friendly game against Hungary in Budapest in a 1-1 draw and in a friendly with Argentina at Wembley, he gave a performance which won him the man of the match award. That showing ensured he was in England's Euro 2000 squad. He joined Liverpool FC and became the club's most expensive player when Gerard Houllier paid Leicester City £11 million for his services in March 2000. Gerard Houllier defended the transfer by simply insisting that Heskey would set Anfield alight.
He made his Anfield debut in the Premiership against Sunderland earning a penalty in front of the Kop end after just three minutes. His first goal for Liverpool arrived in his fifth game when he headed home to complete a 3-0 win at Coventry City.
In the 2000/2001 campaign he scored a superb goal on the opening game giving Liverpool a 1-0 victory over Bradford City at Anfield. He later recorded his first ever senior hat-trick in the 4-0 win against Derby County at Pride Park. That season he finished second top scorer behind Michael Owen with 22 goals in his first full season at Anfield.
Against Spain in February 2001 Emile scored one of England's three goals in the friendly victory. In the World Cup qualifier against Germany in September 2001 he scored the final goal in England's 5-1 victory in Munich. Heskey lost his scoring touch during the 2001/02 season hitting 14 goals
He was selected for the 2002 World Cup squad and netted against Denmark as England reached the quarter-finals. By the start of the 2002/03 season, Heskey had played 129 games for the Reds, notching up 39 goals. He also started in all of Liverpool's famous five trophy wins
Emile Heskey Rumours and Transfers

Chris Hutchings is happy with Emile Heskey's progress from a broken metatarsal, but does not feel he will make England's final Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia next month.
Heskey came in from the international wilderness to help England claim wins over Israel and Russia, but he missed out on the return trip to Russia after breaking a bone in his foot in September.
The powerful front-man will have been a frustrated spectator as England lost in Russia to surrender the initiative in qualifying to Guus Hiddink's men.
He still harboured hopes of being fit for the visit of Croatia on November 21, but his club manager has scotched such talk.
'Heskey should be back with us in a few weeks, after the next international break,' said Hutchings.

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings hopes to have both Mario Melchiot and Antonio Valencia back for the trip to Birmingham this weekend.
The Latics duo - along with Emile Heskey - missed last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Portsmouth but there are hopes they'll ready ready to resume at St Andrews.
Hutchings told the Wigan Evening Post: "Hopefully Melchiot and Valencia will be back when we play at Birmingham this weekend. That would make us a better team. Valencia did a bit of training on Friday after coming back from international duty with Ecuador. But he has got some fluid on the knee which means he hasn't got a full range of movement yet. We have to make sure he is right, otherwise rushing him could set him back another two or three weeks."

Steve McClaren admits Dean Ashton has 'forced' his way back in to contention for a place in the England squad.
Ashton is back to fitness after missing last season with a broken ankle suffered while training with England ahead of a friendly against Greece.
He has proved his well-being with West Ham United in recent weeks, scoring three goals in his last four appearances.
The striker's reward is expected to be a place in McClaren's squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia.
With Emile Heskey injured, and Michael Owen battling to be fit, Ashton has a live chance of winning his first international cap.
England coach McClaren admits the former Crewe Alexandra youngster is in his thinking for the qualifying double-header.
"He has forced his way in," said McClaren. "It was very disappointing about the injury at the start of last season with England. I have been watching him from pre-season onwards and he certainly comes into consideration."

Wigan defender Titus Bramble believes the days when he was made to feel a scapegoat at Newcastle are now far behind him.
There were many occasions during Bramble's five years on Tyneside that he failed to live up to his £5million price tag following his move from Ipswich.
Bramble's performances often attracted considerable criticism, so it came as no surprise when he left the club during the summer at the end of his contract.
Wigan manager Chris Hutchings, fresh from taking over at the JJB Stadium from Paul Jewell, made Bramble one of his first signings, and since then the 26-year-old has not looked back.
Bramble impressed in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool as he was at the heart of repelling virtually every Reds attack.
He could certainly not be happier as he said: "I needed the move away, and with such great boys at this club, it's been easy for me to settle in. I know I was often criticised when I was at Newcastle. At times I thought it was fair, but at others I thought they were looking for a scapegoat, and that was me. I was big enough to take it, but I was glad to move and now I am playing every week, whereas at Newcastle I was in for a few games and then out for a few. Playing week in week out is something every footballer needs for consistency, and I think my performances are reflected in that. Against Liverpool, that was one of my best since I joined Wigan, but then as a team we were outstanding. We've done well all season, and against Liverpool we showed the spirit we have in the team because to match them was fantastic. We deserved a point at least. As long as we continue to play the way we did on Saturday, then we will win more games than we lose."
Emile Heskey has proved what can be achieved with application and hard work after reclaiming his England place, despite playing for a club still trying to shake off its unfashionable tag.
But Bramble is not looking to emulate his team-mate.
"I'm not really thinking about that," added Bramble. "I've seen what Emile's done, and he's a fantastic player, he has been all his career. He has proven that by getting back into the England squad, so well done to him. But I just want to play regularly for Wigan, which is my bread and butter."

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings has rejected weekend speculation linking striker Emile Heskey with a January move to Newcastle.
Heskey is currently working his way back to fitness from a broken foot, but his performances prior to picking up his injury caught the eye of a number of clubs.
Hutchings has made it clear he has no intention of selling the England striker and is keen to get him back fit and firing for Latics.
He told the Evening Post: "I haven't heard anything about Emile being linked with other clubs. With the way he played leading up to his injury, it is not a surprise big clubs are being linked with him."
