Norwegian international, Egil Ostenstad notched up 54 goals in 128 games for Viking Stavanger of Norway between 1994 and 1996 before Graeme Souness introduced Egil to English football at The Dell. He had a superb start in the Premiership and was even touted for a move to Liverpool in the summer of 1997 but this didn't come about

At Southampton he scored 29 goals in 96 appearances. In August 1999 Brian Kidd initiated a swap deal involving Egil Ostenstad and record signing ( million) Kevin Davies. This brought Otenstad to Ewood Park but hasn't impressed and in fact he was told that he could leave the club.

After starting just ten games for Rovers all season a loan move collapsed to Las Palmas in January 2001. But the following month Manchester City signed him on loan with a view to a permanent move but he only played 4 games and failed to impress. The loan ended in May 2001 Egil appeard in just seven games in the 2001/02 season and his future looks bleak with Rovers
