Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has once again turned to the Dutch amateur ranks in a bid to increase his squad.

De Treffers winger Arafath Heuvel, 31, will have a month long trial with the Pittodrie club.

"I think we are still a wee bit short and when the chance to have a look at Arafath came up I thought we should take it," Calderwood informed the P&J.

"He played for Groningen several years ago, he has pace and knows the game. He can play up front or wide on the left."

Scott Calderwood, son of the Aberdeen manager, was busy scouting for skill in Holland.

The Dons had hoped to sign amateur Robert Fik however the forward turned down the offer of a one year deal after passing a medical.

Fellow forward Dyron Daal joined Aberdeen from Holland on amateur terms last year however failed to break into the 1st team and has since joined St Johnstone.

On Heuvel, Calderwood added, "The fact he is very quick and plays in both positions is the attraction. He was due to go on a cruise next week and the fact he has cancelled to come to Aberdeen mentioned that a lot about the lad. I saw him play as a youngster and he looked as if he was going to go all the way to the top."

First Division club St Johnstone sign forward Dyron Daal after the Dutchman was released by Aberdeen.

Daal was planning to transfer to the U.S to continue his career however instead opted to transfer to McDiarmid Park to join Owen Coyle′s side.

The 23 year old joined Aberdeen on amateur terms last year however failed to break into the 1st team at Pittodrie.

The 6ft 4in forward replaces Trinidad and Tobago international Jason Scotland, who has joined Swansea.

Saints 1st team coach Sandy Stewart informed the club website, "His height will do no harm, however it doesn′t signal that we are intending to change the way we play. He likes and is comfortable with the ball on the ground and our style of football will suit him in that respect, plus he has a bit of pace as well."

Daal is a product of the youth system at Ajax and had a short spell at Utrecht before a transfer to Scotland in August, when he joined Aberdeen.

He netted twice for the Dons in his one start and 6 appearances as a substitute before moving on loan to Dundee.

Daal scored 5 goals from 7 starts for the First Division club, that included braces against Airdrie United and Ross County in April.
