PSV Eindhoven forward Arouna Kone would miss the start of the Eredivisie season after being diagnosed with malaria.

With the new Dutch campaign less than 3 weeks away, 23 year old Kone is in hospital and will not travel to Moscow, where PSV are participating in a pre season tournament.

"That is difficult to assess," responded coach Ronald Koeman when asked how long Kone could be absent for following Saturday night's 2-1 defeat to MSV Duisburg.

"We hope that he can go home Monday. After that we must wait and see when he can join the group again. However, he will not join us for our trip to Moscow, that is for sure."

Kone has already missed out several pre season preparations after returning to Holland late from his holidays after making a mistake about when he was due back.

(reopens) Meanwhile, Koeman has informed Mika Vayrynen and Csaba Feher that they can look for another club.

The return to Eindhoven of Otman Bakkal and Ismail Aissati following loan stints at FC Twente last season, coupled with a fit-again John de Jong and the signing of Tommie van der Leegte, means the duo are unlikely to see much playing time.

"It will get difficult for Vayrynen and Feher," Koeman informed De Telegraaf. "In principle they can look for a new club. The others get their chance."

Vayrynen has a contract until June 2009, whilst Feher's deal runs until 2008.

PFC CSKA Sofia have continued their recruitment programme by signing defender Quido Lanzaat on a free transfer from newly-promoted Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg.

The German club confirm the 27 year old centre-back, who helped his side earn promotion in May, signed a 2 year contract with CSKA, keeping him at the Bulgarian club until 2009 after Duisburg decided against renewing his contract.

Lanzaat, who was restricted to only 8 appearances in his only season at the club, had enjoyed spells with VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, TSV Alemannia Aachen and TSV 1860 Munchen having started his career with AFC Ajax in his native Netherlands before moving to Mönchengladbach in 1999/00.

Lanzaat's signing follows swiftly on the heels of those of Panamanian forward Jose Luis Garces and Montenegrin U21 international Nikola Vujadinović as CSKA step up their preparations for the UEFA Cup, which they will enter in the 2nd qualifying round next month.

02 July 2007
