Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric says that the Foxes have pulled out of a deal to sign Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The 35 year old former Leeds, Chelsea and Boro forward is without a club after been released by Charlton at the end of last season.

The former Dutch international was supposedly undergoing a medical at the Walkers Stadium Monday ahead of a probable move.

But Mandaric mentioned that that after talks with manager Martin Allen the Championship side have now dropped their interest in the striker.

"There was a chance of the signing but, after talks with the manager, it was decided not to take it any further," Mandaric informed the Leicester Mercury.

"But it is still my intention to back him with some more new transfers if we can."

Allen has already signed 3 new forwards in Carl Cort, DJ Campbell and teenager Ricky Sappleton, however would welcome bolstering other areas of the team.

Leicester sign forward DJ Campbell from Birmingham in a deal that would in the end be worth £2.1 million to the Premier League newcomers.

Campbell becomes the Foxes' 12th signing of a busy summer and is reunited with Martin Allen, his former manager at Brentford, at the Walkers Stadium.

The 25 year old is the 3rd player to move from St Andrews to Leicester in the summer, following Bruno N'Gotty and Stephen Clemence.

DJ Campbell is locked in talks with Watford, skysports.com can confirm.

Birmingham are reportedly ready to allow Campbell depart with Garry O'Connor and Daniel de Ridder having arrived at St Andrews in the summer, and Mido set to follow.

Leicester also lodged a bid earlier this week, however Watford too have now joined the chase for his signature.

Campbell is now having talks with both clubs and is thinking about his options.

Campbell joined Birmingham in January 2006, however has found his 1st team chances limited under Steve Bruce, starting only 19 league games.

Meanwhile, Birmingham have allowed young defender Sam Oji to join Southend on trial.

The 21 year old, who has one year left on his current deal at City, will spend the next month at Roots Hall.

Birmingham have agreed the signing of Scotland forward Garry O'Connor from Lokomotiv Moscow for £2.65 million, as stated by the Russian club.

The 24 year old, who left Hibs for Lokomotiv in March last year, will pen a 2 year contract and will become Steve Bruce's 3rd summer signing if he passes a medical at St Andrews.

In a statement on their official website, fclm.ru, Lokomotiv said, "Lokomotiv Moscow have come to an agreement with Birmingham about the transfer of Lokomotiv attacker Garry O'Connor to the English club."

The statement continued, "The total fee for O'Connor is 5.3 million dollars. It expects that after O'Connor passes his medical tests, he signed a 2 year contract with the Birmingham club."

City manager Steve Bruce was desperate for new firepower to increase his side's chances of staying in the Barclays Premier League following the return of loan forward Nicklas Bendtner to Arsenal.

Bruce also has Cameron Jerome, DJ Campbell and Rowan Vine at his disposal however all lack top flight experience, whilst Mikael Forssell was dogged by injury problems for the past 3 years and a doubt remains over his future.

Blues were unsuccessful with a £3 million bid for West Ham's Marlon Harewood earlier in the week however were more fortunate in their attempts to sign O'Connor.

Fulham, Everton and Portsmouth were also linked with the player who scored 58 goals in 164 appearances for Hibs. It was a lack of goals which proved to be Birmingham's Achilles heel when they were last in the Premier League 2 years ago.

On the international front, O'Connor was in good form recently, scoring the only goal in Scotland's friendly win over Austria and finding the target in the 2-0 triumph over the Faroe Islands.

Birmingham are ready to offer £2 million plus Rowan Vine in a bid to beat Boro to the signature of West Bromwich Albion hitman Diomansy Kamara.

Blues manager Steve Bruce had a £3 million bid for Senegal player Kamara discarded by the Baggies Monday.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has made it clear the club are under no load to sell their prize assets, inspite of failing to win promotion to the Premier League following defeat to Derby in the Championship play off final at Wembley.

That stance was vindicated when they turned down Blues' opening offer for Kamara, who signed a new 3 year contract at The Hawthorns last August.

The 23 goal frontman's agent Willie McKay says that he 'wants to leave' in the summer, and Birmingham and Boro are at the front of the queue vying for his services.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate sees Kamara as ideal replacement for Mark Viduka, who has joined Sam Allardyce's revolution at Newcastle, and is prepared to stump up £4 million for him.

But Bruce thinks he has an player up his sleeve in the form of forward Vine, who moved to St Andrews from Luton for £2.5 million in January.

Albion manager Tony Mowbray had also been in the hunt for the 24 year old former Luton player, however was beaten to the punch by Blues.

With that in mind, Bruce is ready to put a cash-plus-Vine offer on the table, especially as he has a wealth of forwards on his books, with Cameron Jerome, DJ Campbell, Gary McSheffrey and Mikael Forssell all fighting for places.

Vine scored 15 goals in total last season, however only one in 10 appearances for Blues.
