Derby County manager Billy Davies admitted that that he is still on the lookout for 2 or 3 new players, in a bid to boost his Rams team for the challenge of the Premier League.

Davies has already brought in 7 new recruits in the summer, however is now being linked with the likes of Southampton forward Kenwyne Jones, Sheffield United frontman Jon Stead and PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mika Vayrynen.

Davies informed the Evening Telegraph, "I am hoping that of bringing one or 2 in shortly, that is the plan. We have got irons in the fire, there were irons in the fire for several weeks and our fingers are crossed. We hope we can do some business this week, however the searching will go on right to the end of August."

Meanwhile, injury fears over new signing Claude Davis have abated, with the Jamaican centre back having taken part in training as usual Monday.

Davis suffered a small hamstring strain during the 2-2 pre season friendly draw with Espanyol at the weekend.

Derby County have completed the signing of goalie Lewis Price from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 23 year old Wales international puts pen to paper on a 3 year deal, becoming the Barclays Premier League newcomers' 6th summer signing.

Rams manager Billy Davies said, 'Lewis is a young player with very good possible and I sign him in the 1st instance to provide back up and competition for our established goalkeepers.'

Price came through the ranks at Portman Road and made his senior debut whilst still a teenager.

He made his international debut in 2005 against Cyprus and he has 3 Wales caps to his name.

He follows Robert Earnshaw, Andy Todd, Tyrone Mears, Claude Davis and Ben Hinchliffe to Pride Park in the summer.

Derby defender Claude Davis has won his appeal for a work permit and is in the end ready to start his Pride Park career.

The 28 year old Jamaican agreed a £3 million move from Sheffield United earlier this month however the deal was held up because he has not played enough international games over the last 2 years to meet the requirements.

However dispensation was granted to Davis at a hearing in Sheffield today and Rams manager Billy Davies said, 'We are delighted with the decision and welcome Claude as a Derby player. We can now start to get him involved in playing games and in further getting to know his team mates and everyone else at the club. Claude is an excellent addition. Hopefully he will be a huge asset to Derby County and it is down to him now to fight for his place, as is the case with every member of the squad.'

Wales defender Lewin Nyatanga signed a new 4 year contract at Derby, however maybe loaned out by the Premier League newcomers this season.

He had one more year on his previous deal, however is now contracted until 2011.

Nyatanga, 18, started only 5 league games for the Rams last season, and was loaned out to Sunderland and Barnsley.

But with experienced defenders Andy Todd and Claude Davis joining in the summer, Nyatanga would well find himself loaned out again this term.

However, he missed Tuesday's 2-0 triumph over Italian side FC Chiasso with a calf problem.

Dean Leacock and David Jones were on target for the Rams.
