Thiago Motta was linked with a transfer to AC Milan for a month now, however FC Barcelona were adamant that they will not let the player go for anything less than 5 million euros.
The Rossoneri managers were hoping that the Brazilian-Italian midfielder would force his way out of the club, however that crashed and burned yesterday when Barcelona technical director decided to put his foot down.
"Motta is unhappy? Too bad, that is life," he has said. "We are not going to allow him go wherever he would like for free.
"He is a player who has a certain value, particularly being a player who has come through our system, and anyone wanting him must pay a fair price.
"If not, he will stay here. He might not be happy, however that is life in football sometimes." The message was loud and clear, unless someone decided to pay 5 million euros, Motta could be staying put.
The effect was as desired, with Milan deciding to in the end make a 4 million euro offer, one that would very well seal the deal.
FC Barcelona still would like 5m, and with Ancelotti pushing Galliani that would well happen, however it is understood that the 2 clubs are much closer to an agreement.
If the move goes through, Motta will be the 7 Brazilian at Milan, joining Ronaldo, Kaka, Cafu, Pato, Serginho and Dida.

AC Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti has once again said that the San Siro club will not be selling Kaka to Real Madrid.
The Brazilian was linked with a summer move to the Spanish champions, however the Rossoneri have stated that he is not for sale and will stay in Italy at least until the end of his contract in 2011.
'There are no negotiations underway and there never will be,' mentioned Ancelotti. 'It is impossible for him to join Real Madrid, he is a symbol for us. He has a long contract and I am sure he will honour it,' added the tactician, whose men will face Real, Lokomotiv Moscow and PSV Eindhoven in the Russian Railways Cup in Moscow this weekend.
Kaka added a funny twist to the transfer speculation when he, along with teammate Cafu, accidentally got on the Madrid team coach.
He soon rectified the mistake, however it was enough for the Spanish Press to report that the player already thinks part of Los Blancos.
Meanwhile, Real President Ramon Calderon has said that Kaka would only join his club if he asks Milan for a transfer.
'Kaka will come if he asks his club to leave. He knows that we were after him for 2 years and we know that he and his family would love to join us one day.'

Real Madrid player Emerson has supposedly informed Marcos Cafu that he will be playing alongside him at AC Milan next season.
The midfielder was strongly associated with a San Siro switch after a difficult 1st campaign in Madrid and stories of a Milanese marriage are gathering pace.
The former Roma man, who left Juve following Calciopoli last summer, has made no secret of his wish for an Italian return – even if Real triumph their 1st Liga title since 2003 this month.
Emerson expects in Milan on June 18, at the end of the Spanish season, when he will undergo his medical at MilanLab.
El Puma, who was suffering with a groin problem, expects to easily pass the tests and has allegedly already informed friend Cafu that he is Rossoneri bound.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the South American and recently said the club's interest in him. 'He is the kind of midfielder we are looking for,' Carletto declared.
Forward Ricardo Oliveira could be included in the deal after his disastrous campaign for the European champions.
FC Barcelona player Edmilson is an alternative to Emerson should the latter fail to complete his Milan move.
