Former Home Secretary John Reid Tuesday denied he was about to be appointed chairman of Celtic.
Reports claimed the 60 year old MP for Airdrie and Shotts was offered the position and was "highly likely" to take it.
But a spokesman for Dr Reid, well known as a Celtic supporter, said, "Whatever the speculation, John Reid has made no final decision about any roles he could take up in future and won′t be making any such decisions for some time."
The Daily Telegraph report suggested Dr Reid would replace Brian Quinn, the chairman since 2000.
According to the paper, his appointment was being promoted by the club′s largest shareholder, Dermot Desmond.

Rangers forward Alan Gow mentioned that he is not overawed by the challenge of helping his new club bring the SPL title back to Ibrox.
Gow, who was previously with Falkirk, has already featured for Walter Smith′s side on a trip to the US last month.
"Everyone knows that Celtic were the best side in the country last season so the team and the club as a whole are looking to change that," Gow said.
"It′s taken a while to get here however I′m now looking forward to the challenge."
Gow scored 8 goals for Falkirk last season and signed a pre-contract with Rangers in January shortly after Walter Smith had replaced Paul Le Guen as manager.
The 24 year old is determined to force his way into his new manager′s plans.
"I will work hard and make sure that I take my chance when I get it," Gow informed BBC Sport.
"It′ll be down to me at the end of the day to make sure that I play in the 1st team."
The former Airdrie player is also relishing the prospect of playing European football for the 1st time in his career and breaking into the national side.
"I can′t wait to play in Europe, it′s a dream and a big achievement for me," Gow added.
"I played for the Scotland ′B′ team recently as well and enjoyed that so you never know, there might be an opportunity there as well. Obviously it′s down to me so if I can play well enough, hopefully I can be involved with Scotland."

First Division club St Johnstone sign forward Dyron Daal after the Dutchman was released by Aberdeen.
Daal was planning to transfer to the U.S to continue his career however instead opted to transfer to McDiarmid Park to join Owen Coyle′s side.
The 23 year old joined Aberdeen on amateur terms last year however failed to break into the 1st team at Pittodrie.
The 6ft 4in forward replaces Trinidad and Tobago international Jason Scotland, who has joined Swansea.
Saints 1st team coach Sandy Stewart informed the club website, "His height will do no harm, however it doesn′t signal that we are intending to change the way we play. He likes and is comfortable with the ball on the ground and our style of football will suit him in that respect, plus he has a bit of pace as well."
Daal is a product of the youth system at Ajax and had a short spell at Utrecht before a transfer to Scotland in August, when he joined Aberdeen.
He netted twice for the Dons in his one start and 6 appearances as a substitute before moving on loan to Dundee.
Daal scored 5 goals from 7 starts for the First Division club, that included braces against Airdrie United and Ross County in April.
